According to a Boston Globe article on July 24, 2004, Phase 1 of the trail (6.8 miles) from the Cross Point Towers in Lowell, MA to Rte 225 in Westford has been out to bid. A bid was awarded in the spring of 2005. Construction will start in the Spring of 2005 and take two years to complete. All local and State permits are on hand for the project. |

The former Wang Office Towers, at the intersection of Rte 3 and 495 are now owned by the Cross Point Corporation. The former railroad right of way passes in front of the building. The trail begins at a location out of sight to the left. South is to the left in this picture.

Just north of Chelmsford Center, the outline of the rails is visible through the parking lot.

Across Rte 129, the path goes by the former
railroad depot, now occupied by retail businesses. After Chelmsford Center, the trail parallels the south edge of Rte 110 to the vicinity of High Street where it turns south and begins to follow Rte 27. |

The trail crosses to the east side of Route 27, just south of Elderberry Way and then crosses Route 225 as shown in the picture at the left. This is where Phase 1 will end. | ||
