Mass Trails Proposed or Under Construction  Map of Local Trails

Phase II of the project runs south from Rte 225 in Carlisle to Route 20 in Sudbury.  For convenience here, it has been divided into pictures north, and south of the Concord river.  Initial planning is underway by groups in Acton, Concord and Sudbury to help make this section a reality.

South of Route 225, the rails closely follow Route 27, crossing to the west side near the intersection with North St, and then back to the east side of Route 27, near Ledge Rock Way.

Soon, the path turns in a more southerly direction and soon begins to follow closely on the west side of Route 2a.

The picture at the left shows the crossing of Route 2a from the east to the west side, just north of Davis Road.

The trail passes between Ice House Pond and several small restaurants and stores along Rte 2a in Acton.
The crossing of Rte 2 is 'at grade'.  The railroad was occasionally the source of some inconvenience in years past, as busy traffic had to stop and wait for a train to go by.

The view looks toward the south.

South of Route 2, the rail path skirts Warner's Pond, crosses Commonwealth Ave in Concord near the Rte 2a, rotary then crosses the Active Boston & Maine tracks at the West Concord Train Station.

View at the Train Station Parking lot shows the rail bed in the background, entering from the north..

Picture of the n-s and e-w rails 'crossing' at the West Concord Station.  The still active e-w freight and commuter rail to Boston is the the background.
Next to the Train Station, the path crosses Route 62 and then enters some woods on the way to the Concord River.

In the picture on the right, which looks south, the right of way is to the left of the lamp post.

The bridge over the river was removed several years ago, after a local youth drowned after diving from it.
