Upper Charles - Phase I

Back to:  Mass Trails Proposed or Under Construction

A 27 mile hard surface trail known as the Upper Charles Rail Trail is beginning to take shape to the south of Framingham.

A public hearing was held on October 29, 2003 at the Milford Town Hall to acquaint the public with the 2.8 mi, phase I section of this trail.  Phase I starts at the baseball field in the center of town, and ends just north of 495  (see map).

Seven years in planning; construction is scheduled to start early in 2005, with completion expected in the spring of 2006.  A future Phase II is projected to extend the trail another 3.6 miles north along the abandoned rail bed to Hopkinton.  Other sections of the Upper Charles Trail connecting the towns of Sherborn, Holliston, Milford, Hopkinton, Ashland, and Framingham are envisioned.

Approximately 150 people showed up at the hearing.  Many asked questions and spoke in favor of the Milford trail, while no one spoke against it.  Reno DeLuzio in Milford, is the chairman of the Upper Charles Trail Committee.
